Michigan Nationals

The Michigan Nationals U16 Spring team had a great start to the spring season finishing second at the inaugural HPHL Spring Tournament in Detroit.  With victories against Team Detroit (8-2) and Michigan Ice Hawks (3-0) the Nationals moved on to face the Motor City Machine in second day action.  After defeating the Machine 12-0, the boys faced off against the undefeated Traverse City Selects in the quarter finals.  Goals by Zach Heintz, Cam Orchard, Rex Moe, Matthew Goeree and Gianni Vitali led the team to a 5-3 victory.  In the semi-final the boys faced the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies.  Goals by Cam Orchard and Trevor Zenas and strong goaltending from Darin Fox moved the Nationals into the finals against National Champions Honeybaked.  The team came out strong against Honeybaked with a goal by Alex Klekotka in the first minute.  However Honeybaked, with the addition of 98 phenom Sean Day, came back strong for an 8-1 victory.  A strong showing for the Nationals as they move on to the HPHL Tournament in Chicago at the beginnning of May.
